Overview
Down to Earth is a climate connection app designed to make climate action more accessible through community. Inspired by swipe-based social platforms, the app connects users with local sustainability initiatives — from beach cleanups to policy advocacy while fostering real relationships around shared environmental values. Rather than positioning climate action as obligation, the product reframes it as social participation — making engagement feel intuitive, local, and human.

The Challenge
Climate advocacy often suffers from two key barriers: participation feels overwhelming or inaccessible, and engagement is typically one-off, lacking long-term community building. At the same time, younger generations are facing rising loneliness — with 30% of Americans aged 18-34 reporting feeling lonely regularly. The challenge was to design a product that lowered the barrier to climate action while also addressing the social disconnect that prevents sustained involvement.
The Approach
We developed a swipe-driven discovery model that allows users to browse local climate initiatives based on their interests — transforming participation into a familiar and frictionless behavior. The platform emphasizes consistency over one-time events, local group participation, and values-based matching. By pairing users with causes and people aligned with their interests, the experience builds deeper engagement and encourages long-term involvement. The identity and UX system were designed to make climate action feel approachable, social, and habit-forming.
